Where the Horse Racing World Comes For Insights into Race Results.

Coffee tables originally came into fashion during the Victorian era. That’s when people began creating wooden tables specifically meant for their hot cups of coffee or tea. Only, back then, they were called tea tables. With Americans being far more inclined to drink coffee than tea, their transition to being called coffee tables makes complete sense.

Before the late 1700′s, Europeans utilized tables such as end tables, tea tables, centre table and occasional tables in conjunction with their version of a couch, called, a “settle.” By the late 18th century, this high-backed settle was being usurped by its lower back cousin, the sofa. This led to sofa tables, which rested against the back of the sofa and was used for the placement of cups and books.

Subsequently, coffee tables were reconceived as low tables placed in front of the sofa. History seems to indicate that this idea migrated to England from the Ottoman Empire, where tables were used in tea gardens. Many historians argue that Britain’s Anglo-Japanese craze during the 1870′s and 1880′s was the true inspiration, what with low tables having been common in Japan.

Since the Victorian era, the varieties available of the coffee square table has exploded exponentially. These tables are specifically designed to be long and low, so that when placed in front of a sofa, they make coffee access easy and organic. Coffee tables wood are typically found in a living or sitting room. Coffee tables may also be dual purpose by incorporating cabinets for storage.

Saunter into any furniture store, high end, mid priced, what have you and you’re bound to see an absolute bevy of coffee table options. Well, one of the easiest ways to create character in your living or sitting room, according to the powers that be, (i.e., interior designers) is with a completely unique, vintage or vintage style trunk coffee tables. Once you start to look around, you’ll see that a coffee trunk can, in fact, be a wonderful contribution to virtually any setting. Coffee trunks can be both charming and endearing, reminiscent, as they are, of a simpler, more romantic era. What many don’t realize is that the Chinese culture had incorporated the trunk antique into their lifestyle for centuries. The trunk steamer only met with its demise when suitcases came into being. The suitcase’s lighter construction and lower relative cost helped to push the trunk steamer into the annals of history.

Steamer trunks were commonly constructed by first building a pine box as the base. Then utilizing a great variety of protective coverings, they were decorated to taste. A great many recovered antique trunks have been found sporting every kind of covering imaginable, from unusually treated leathers to studded hides and the like. During their hey-day, the great majority of trunk antique brands were a form of off-shoot production by furnishing manufacturers. As craftsmen sought ways to set their trunks apart a great many decorative papers, treated metals, hardwoods, canvases, and ornately styled hardware fasteners made their way into the craft.

Regardless of whether your abode is outfitted in a rustic, shabby or antique motif, finding the right coffee square table or coffee trunk to fit in and unite your existing furniture shouldn’t be too tough. Often designers will suggest a wooden style Japanese or refurbished trunk steamer as the best choice. Imagine your coffee table generating ooh’s and aah’s. Again, if you’re snuggled in close quarters but want both a table and the additional storage space, trunk coffee tables that provide both storage and function could offer your very best strategy. Giving items such as keys, purses, bootjacks, etc. a permanent place, hidden from view and yet centrally located, can make your new coffee table a truly brilliant addition. Imagine just lifting a lid, removing your bootjack, pulling off your boots and quickly placing the bootjack right back where it belongs, just like that!

Victorian trunks are renowned for their amazing array of ingenuous lid and tray compartments they incorporated, beginning with the very basic to the highly complex. They’ve been found to sport a virtual Rubik’s cube of hidden hiding places. Given the remarkable number of clever trunk solutions available for overflow storage, why would you possible want to settle for a plain old coffee tables wood? Think of the secret pleasure you’ll have knowing that directly below the table where your guests and you have placed snacks, drinks, that a veritable maze of clever storage units are keeping some of your most prized possessions safe and out of harm’s way.

Michelle Nihei’s grand passion for her scorching prospect, Prince Will I Am, was not to be contained by the unsettling rain storm that hit the track, Saturday morning. Flipped to a muddy principal track from grass earlier inside the day, the $150,000 W.L. McKnight Handicap at Calder saw the resourceful Prince Will I am face the challenge to become a graded stakes winner, rallying to an remarkable two 1/2-length victory against Free Fighter and three viable rivals during the 1 1/2-mile McKnight.

Prince Will I am, winner of the Grade 1 Jamaica at Belmont Park earlier this season, as 1 of the 3 Grade one winners originally entered inside the McKnight together with Telling and Presious Passion. Horse Racing Results For Today saw  that Coach Steve Hobby opted to scratch Telling shortly following the decision was announced by track management to take the McKnight off the turf just before two p.m.

Out of the original 10 horse field, 5 authentic starters made the McKnight, including Presious Passion, as expected, with jockey Elvis Trujillo aboard, who fought the 2007 and 2008 McKnight winner well off the rail whilst posting splits of 25.72 seconds, 50.62, and one:sixteen.71 for the opening six furlongs.

Prince Will I Am rated properly about four to 5 lengths off the leader even though also guided to the outside by his rider, Javier Castellano, during the early heading.

Presious Passion stayed clear leaving the backstretch the second time but supplied little resistance when Prince Will I Am pushed just within the three-eighths pole. One of horse racings most impressive new stars, Prince Will I Am speedily established a three-length lead midway on the bend and had more than enough in reserve to resist a bid from Free Fighter via the stretch. It was an additional 3 1/2 lengths additional again to Memorial Maniac. A tiring Presious Passion and Simmard rounded out the order of finish.

Comma to the Top Throws Shoe Yet Nonetheless Nails CashCall Futurity

With Gourmet Dinner the original early favorite, horse racing tipsters were surprised when Comma to the Top, who delayed the CashCall Futurity due to a protracted shoe repair, won the Grade one, $750,000 race on Saturday at Hollywood Park to record his fifth straight victory and move towards the top with the West Coast’s 2-year-old division.

With jockey Corey Nakatani aboard, Comma to the Top ($7) seized command with a powerful move at three furlongs to go, had a 3 1/2-length lead at midstretch, then held off J Ps Gusto to win by 1 3/4 lengths. He was timed in 1:44.72 for 1 1/16 miles on Cushion Track

Clubhouse Journey, who got bounced around badly to the first turn and was running last early, gunned it for 3rd, a head in entrance of Gourmet Dinner.

Peter Miller trains Comma to your Top, a gelding by Bwana Charlie, for proprietors Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum, and Stuart Tsujihara, all entertainment executives. It was Miller’s most bountiful triumph.

The race was held beneath the lights on a cold, rainy evening, 25 minutes late off after its scheduled race time. Comma to the Top’s shoe problems was the triggered the delay. He lost his hind shoe although while being walked from barn, and then required two farriers and a phone call from an extra coach to obtain the necessary shoe repair.

The first person entrusted with replacing the shoe was injured although appearing to become not sure of himself. He was outside of his scope to substitute the shoe, said Miller, who briefly tried to complete the work himself when he gallantly allowed that he simply was not up to the job.

During the delay, Miller received a phone call from horse race trainer Neil Drysdale, who did not have a horse in the race, but fortunately Miller already knew blacksmith Wes Champagne was at the races. Champagne rode to the rescue. He came to the paddock and fastened a brand new hind shoe on Comma to the Top, who by now was getting seriously ticked off.

Wes saved the day, Miller said. I need to say thank you to him and Neil Drysdale.

Calder Race Course Highlights: Presious Passion Poised To Pump The Pack During Saturday’s W.L. McKnight Handicap.

Presious Passion, the 7 year old gelding owned by Patricia Generazio with over $2.7 million in earnings, is set to start this Saturday in the $150,000, Grade 2, W.L. McKnight Handicap. Having won 2 of his 3 previous McKnight Handicaps, this “3rd time’s the charm”, hopeful, is facing 9, three year old+ horses over the 12-furlong course.

Riding Presious Passion is jockey Elvis Trujillo. While last February’s Mac Diarmida Stakes at Gulfstream Park went well, with Presious taking the winner’s circle, March’s $2 Million Sheema Classic in Dubai saw the Florida-bred Chestnut come in last in a field of 16.

Having won the W.L. McKnight in 2007 and 2008, Precious Passion’s bid for the ‘Three-Peat’, this last December, was prevented when an early sprint left him spent too early on, leaving him in fifth place. Cloudy’s Knight came in 1st that day.

Prior to that, ‘Presious’ enjoyed one of his best season’s ever, with two Grad 1 wins in the U.S. He won the, “United Nations,” G1 at Monmouth Park and the Clement Hirsch Invitational G1 at Santa Anita. The $3,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Turf G1 race saw ‘Presious’ come in second behind European champion, Conduit.

Since this spring’s Dubai trip, Presious Passion has logged third place finishes at the G3 Monmouth Stakes, 4th at Delaware Park in a September allowance race and 9th and last in the G3 Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland.

Other Grade 1 winners featured in tomorrow’s 39th W.L. McKnight are 6 year old, “Telling,” owned by Alex and Joanne Lieblong, with rider Eibar Coa for trainer Steve Hobby and 3 year old “Prince Will I Am,” being ridden by Javier Castellano for trainer Michelle Nihei and Casa Farms LLC.

Gourmet Dinner Ready To Bring Home The Bacon in Saturday’s CashCall Futurity.

Having won the Delta Downs Jackpot, last month at Calder Race Course, “Gourmet Dinner,” had more than sufficient earnings to qualify for a spot in next spring’s Kentucky Derby, but, he’s clearly got room for more. He’s all set to take a big bite out of Saturday’s G1 $750,000 Cash Call Futurity at Hollywood Park.

Owner Bill Terrill and trainer, Steve Standridge felt Gourmet Dinner was really ripe for this delicious opportunity. “He came out of his last race great, and we felt like he was going to be one of the top choices in a Grade 1 race, so we had to do it,” Standridge stated.

Riding a horse with a broken rein is not for the faint of heart. Riding a horse with a broken rein when you’re an apprentice jockey and you’re thundering around a race track surrounded by other horses, well, Cory Orm is certainly in the news for this accomplishment.

It was the fourth race on a Saturday, at Turfway Park. The right rein snapped and the young jockey had to think fast. But, apparently, this up-and-comer had the chops to not only keep the horse on-track and on-pace, but his quick thinking put him and his mount, Elliday into the Winner’s Circle.

“My thoughts were to stay calm, keep the horse straight and stay out of everybody’s way. I didn’t think I had a shot to win at all,” Orm said.

What should have be a fairly non-eventful one mile, $5,000 claimer turned into a date with destiny, definitely one for the books on horse racing results for today. Faced with a potentially catastropic incident, Orm had the clarity of mind to grab the throatlatch, the piece of leather that rests just below the horse’s throat and use that to steer from the right side. Few people even saw what was happening, including the track announcer and trainer Billy Allen.

“She was very cooperative,” Orm relayed. “She didn’t give me any trouble. So far as our being able to win the race, the horse definitely deserves the credit.”

Orm’s mentor, Chris McCarron deemed the event, “an amazing feat of courage, determination and athleticism. I called two jockey agents who worked for me. One has been an agent for 51 years and the other for 38. Both said they have never seen nor heard of a rider ride around the track with one rein and win the race,” McCarron stated.

Orm’s performance before this race was not what one could call exceptional. This Louisville native has lost 52 races prior to winning last Thursday’s first race onboard Lexi’s Ready, a 66-1 shot. “I’ve been riding for a while and I always want to win every race,” Orm allowed. “You go a while without winning one and you start to doubt things a bit.”

Orm, 21, graduated from McCarron’s North American Racing Academy, a formal training facility for new jockeys wishing to learn to race from the ground up.  That Orm knew to stay calm in the midst of a potentially deadly situation is a tribute both to his intelligence and the Academy’s training procedures. Orm was quick to lay praise on Chris McCarron as well.  “I have to give Chris a lot of credit,” Orm allowed “He teaches you how to think during a race.”

NYRA poised to consider offtrack betting facilities launch to replace OTB.

With the high liklihood that the New York City Off-Track Betting Corporation will officially seize operations permanently in the near future, talk is brewing that this could present a tremendous opportunity for the New York Racing Association to create a new presence in the New York’s five boroughs.

According to Greg Rayburn, OTB’s chief executive, the company has opted to request that a bankruptcy judge dismiss its submitted  financial reorganization plan, instead opting to have its remaining monies distributed to racetrack creditors and account wagering customers. Unless an 11th hour political maneuver somehow presents itself, the plan is for the company to be dissolved. This leaves New York’s vast wagering market without its lifeblood, i.e., access to its enormously popular wager placement storefronts. Horse racing results without a place to anticipate the outcome, well, there is a considerable vacuum here.

NYRA could launch as many as eight horse racing wager teletheaters. Envisioned as more luxurious versions of OTB’s lower profile betting operations that were found throughout most of the five boroughs, the idea is to roll out newly designed premises based on the business models of OTB’s three teletheaters, by far their most fully realized and profitable concerns.

Today, you needn’t go anyway but your computer to bet the ponies. Do your homework, come prepared and you may find horse racing to be a highly rewarding pursuit. Do it wrong and you could be on your way to the poor house. So, where’s the best place to find respected horse racing information? Well, there are actually several dozen highly respected sites that are considered both comprehensive and easy to use. Amongst the most highly respected sites in the industry, are, “allhorseracing, OTB and DRF, or the Daily Racing Form” each providing extensive racing products and services, every day. Regardless of player experience, these are just 3 of the best sites available. Part of preparing is reviewing the offerings of many, many companies in the horse racing statistics and wagering niche. Horse racing fans should study the recommendations of horse racing analysts as they prepare their wagering strategies.

So, just what does horse wagering involve? That is the $64,000 question! First off, there are the most straight forward or “Straight Bets,” such as Win, Place, Show. Win is 1st place, Place is 2nd and Show is 3rd. You probably already knew this. Then there are “Combination Straight Bets,” such as, “Across the Board (Win/Place/Show)” where you bet on a single horse to either Win, Place or Show. If he wins, you collect on all three bets. If he shows, you collect on the Place and the Show Bet. As you are actually combining 3 bets in one, a $2.00, “Across the Board,” bet will run you $6.00. Last, and definitely not least, are the Exotic Bets. Of these, you may have heard of, “Exacta.” This is one of the least complicated, single-race exotic bets. An Exacta bet is where you combine your bet for the winning and 2nd place horse, in order. This pays more than wagering on either horse to win or place.

These are just a few examples of what makes Horse Race Wagering so exciting. Not only that, Horse Racing is uniformly acknowledged as providing more winning opportunities to you, the player! So, not only do you get to enjoy the thrill of watching 1200 pound thoroughbreds thunder down the stretch, you get to challenge your gift for number crunching against other players!

Preparation is key in this game. You’ve got to do the homework. You’ll be studying thoroughbred horse pedigrees, their performances to date, how they stand up to difficult conditions such as newly rained upon race tracks, how their sire, or father and dam, or mother, stood up to such conditions, etc. You’ll also be taking handicap weights into consideration along with Jockey’s and Trainer’s past performances, so yes, it’s more than just a few, quick horse betting tips. Don’t be afraid to start with less aggressive wagers. It’s critical that you begin by making bets that are as close to calculated risks as possible. Always embrace the cool side of your nature when playing the ponies. Many players lose their cool at the end of a less than stellar wagering session and try to play catch up on the last race or two of the day. By remaining calm and learning to take advantage of this very human tendency, you may learn to profit at their expense.

If this is your first time heading off to the track, you’ll need a racing program and form. These can be purchased at the track or from online horse race data providers like BRIS. Bear in mind that many online wagering sites offer points and sign up bonuses & rewards. Sites such as Twin Spires Club not only automatically give you a $100.00 credit for signing up, they also give you points for every dollar wagered. Players earn 4 points for each dollar gambled on CDI (Churchill Downs Incorporated) race tracks and 2 points for every dollar wagered on every other track. Your points can be redeemed for betting credits, horse race merchandise and memorabilia, handicapping products as well as exclusive Kentucky Derby VIP ticket packages available only to Twin Spires members. Finding today’s horse racing results is not difficult. Finding horse racing results that are, in fact, relevant, is what’s truly critical. Given the millions of horse racing websites online today, the problem is separating the wheat from the chaf. Several sites, including equibase, ntra and tvg offer extensive and finely tuned handicapping products and services as well as daily horse racing information. Regardless of skill level, both experienced and neophyte horse race handicappers will find information to get them off and running. This extensive list of companies offering horse racing results for today will help you source from the most respected players in the industry.

You’re probably saying to yourself, “Just how complicated is horse race betting, anyway?” Well, thankfully, it starts off fairly simply and then gets more complicated, providing you, the player, with as much challenge and risk as you’re ready to entertain. You’re probably familiar with the terms, “Win, Place, Show.” Win is 1st place, Place is 2nd place and Show is 3rd place. Then there are, Combination Straight Bets, such as, “Across the Board (Win/Place/Show)” or “Win/Place, Place/Show,” which are simple 2 bet combinations of Win/Place and Place/Show. Example: a $2 bet costs $4.

Then, there are the more complex or exotic bets. An example is the “Trifecta.” When placing a Trifecta bet, the bettor  picks the horses he expects to Win, Place & Show in the precise order he expects them to come in. Given the difficulty of predicting this bet accurately, it offers one of the better wager pay outs.

Horse Racing, Poker & Black Jack are among the few forms of gambling where statistically speaking, you have a genuine chance. Poker and horse racing share an important characteristic in that you are betting against other players, NOT the house.  This critical difference spells out the reason why this form of wagering often attracts highly educated and intelligent players, but is lost on the general public. So, if you have a keen mind for crunching numbers, a sharp eye for fine horse flesh and realize there’s more to this than some quickie horse betting tips, you’ve come to the right place.

Now, you’re going to need a few things before you start laying down bets. If this is your first time heading off to the track, you’ll need a racing program and form. These can be purchased at the track or from online horse race data providers like BRIS. BRIS offers several excellent free products and services, so, it’s highly recommended that you check them out.

For those just getting started, horse betting involves several considerations. You’ll need to understand the key differences between basic horseracing wagers such as; “The Daily Double,” where you win if you pick winners of both the first and the second race of the day. “Quiniela,” which rewards you for picking two horses that finish first and second, regardless of order, in any individual race and, “Exacta,” a bet similiar to the Quiniela, except that the horses you select must finish in a specific order. You’ve probably heard of the “Trifecta.” While there are many versions, a “Straight Trifecta,” is where you pick the exact order in which the first three horses will cross the finish line. This is just a taste of the many combinations that horse racing has to offer. This is also why horse racing, much like black jack and poker, actually gives the player a much stronger opportunity to win. Horse race betting combines the skill of interpreting statistical data with the reality of human & equine capability.

When preparing to bet the ponies, it’s important to do your homework. Preparation is key. What is each horse’s performance history? Does he/she do well in difficult conditions, i.e., muddy tracks? How much additional weight is that horse being assigned to handicap it, hence, the term, handicapping? It’s important that you begin by betting on horses within your level of comfort. And, that you always do it with a cool head. It’s very common for horse bettors who’ve had an off day to forget their betting systems and just make hot headed bets on the last couple horse races of the day. Don’t be one of them. In fact, if you’re really prepared, you may be able to benefit from this tendency.

Step 1 is learning the basics.  What is your “favorite’s” performance record to date? How well did his or her dam or sire perform? How is he behaving in the paddock, in the post parade and the warm-up? These are among the many data points you’ll be considering and, as you acquire experience and confidence, you will be assigning the degree of significance to each category. The Jockey’s and Trainer’s past performances will probably be important in your analysis as well, so yes, there is quite a bit to learn as you prepare. We can’t encourage you enough to be conservative at the beginning or if you’re a bit rusty. Calculated risk combined with acquired acumen is always encouraged.  Left brain or logical thinking combined with experienced gut instincts can make the difference when betting the horses.

If you’re new to horse racing, we encourage you to start with The Daily Racing Form, often referred to as, “ the Bettors Bible”.  This data packed “Turf Authority” site offers 3 levels of membership, but, the first level is free. Free membership provides users with a quick introduction to all DRF’s industry news , track reports, sports betting features and breeding columns. You’ll even have be able to search their articles archive. Remember, hunting for your horse racing results for today could help you be tomorrow’s winner.
